Caen Images

A would-be Guernsey advocate is required to study Norman and French law at the University of Caen.  Close links are maintained between the Guernsey Bar and the University.  There follows a series of pictures taken in Caen during Easter 2005.  The University's websit is at http://www.unicaen.fr/

The University of Caen.

The University was founded in 1432 by Henry VI of England.  The original buildings were destroyed in 1944.  You can just make out the statute of a Phoenix rising from the ashes in the foreground.  The law faculty is in the far left-hand corner as you view the picture.  The le is behind the picture taker.

The le, Caen.

Salle de L'Echiquier, Caen.  A fine Norman hall within the grounds of the le dating back to the 12th century.

Rue St Pierre, Caen.  The main shopping street in the City.  Highlights in the near vicinity include a good selection of second-hand bookshops, FNAC and the Cafe Latin.
