The Law Officers
The government’s lawyers are the Law Officers of the Crown.  There are two Law Officers, namely, HM Procureur, H E Roberts (Attorney-General) and HM Comptroller (Solicitor-General), R J Mc Mahon. They are supported by a team of lawyers and support staff employed by the States of Guernsey.  The more senior Advocates in government service are known as Crown Advocates, a dignity accorded to them with the approval of the Royal Court.
St James Chambers is divided into four directorates, namely, legislative drafting, civil litigation, commercial and criminal prosecutions.  The directorate heads are Robert Titterington (legislative drafting), Graeme McKerrell (criminal prosecutions), Philip Nicol-Gent (civil litigation) and Martin Thornton (commercial).  East directorate is overseen by the Director of Legal Services, Chris Hookway.
