  • Collas Crill operates a bursary scheme to provide financial assistance to Guernsey residents who are interested in a career as a lawyer.

Applicants wishing to apply for a bursary are not limited to those taking a law degree. It is the intention to become a lawyer that is important rather than the degree course being followed. Collas Crill will consider applications for support of courses leading to degree level studies (non-law degrees included) and/or to post graduate studies with a law content such as PgDL, LPC, SQE or BPTC.

You will be able to gain experience in the below departments:

    • Financial Services and Regulatory

    • Insolvency and Corporate Disputes

    • Private Client and Trusts

    • Real Estate

As a guide, A Level applicants will be expected to achieve a minimum of 136 UCAS points while students who are undertaking degree level studies will be expected to achieve a 2.1 each year of their study as well as positive appraisal feedback in order to receive continued support throughout their degree and / or to post graduate studies with a law content such as the LPC or SQE.

In addition to the academic side, we look for Bursary Students to display the same qualities as anyone we recruit – a willingness to work hard, be a good team player, display good communication skills and to have a 'can do' attitude..

The bursary is worth £2,250 per annum and is paid in three installments, with the first payment being made at the beginning of the academic year, the second in January and the final payment in May. Book tokens are provided at the beginning of each academic year to support the purchase of academic materials. The firm also offers up to 4 weeks' paid work experience per year.

Throughout the period of the payment of the bursary, the student will be allocated a mentor who will be available to the student to give general advice and assistance with regard to the options available to the student on course modules, post-graduate work, work experience placements, the work that the firm is doing etc. Where the student is offered holiday work, a reasonable cross-section of the various departments of the firm will be experienced over the period of the bursary award..

Collas Crill is accredited by the Solicitors' Regulation Authority to provide Training Contracts for those wishing to qualify as Solicitors (of England and Wales) via the LPC route and many of our Bursary Students go on to secure Training Contracts with us. A number of our current Trainees and Paralegals are also working towards qualification via the SQE route.

It is a condition of any award that the recipient is not in receipt of any financial award or assistance from any other business without the express approval of Collas Crill.

  • We offer bursaries to students from Guernsey each year. If you are successful at interview we will issue an offer conditional on you achieving the below grades.  We are committed to supporting focused undergraduates or GDL, LPC, BPTC  and SQE students.
Following success in obtaining one qualification (for example, your LLB or GDL), the bursary will continue to be paid during any further courses required to qualify as a solicitor or barrister.
Our bursary scheme is an excellent opportunity for you to earn while you learn, while we do not have a long list of conditions that must be followed, we do ask that if a bursary is accepted from us then no other bursary is accepted from any other firm/organisation. You'll also need to perform to the best of your abilities during our placements so that both you and Ogier gain the most from this long-term relationship. Ogier is also one of the few Channel Islands firms to offer a structured, England & Wales Solicitor Training Contract, which is fully regulated by the SRA. Many of our bursary students go on to secure training contracts with us in Jersey or Guernsey and complete their England & Wales Solicitor qualifications with us.

Applications for our bursary scheme are invited from students due to sit their A-Levels in the summer preceding entry onto the scheme, together with students already at university or undertaking GDL / LPC / Bar School studies.  Bursaries are provided in line with the academic year.

The academic requirements for our scheme are:

    • Two A grades and one B grade at A-Level or higher (or the equivalent in UCAS points), excluding General Studies

    • 2:1 classification of degree or above

    • Minimum of a Commendation at GDL level

However, the bursary will not be paid if you take a year out at any time.  We expect students to maintain our academic minimum requirements throughout their studies and to complete work experience placements with us, which generally equate to a minimum of two weeks across an academic year.

For further information and to apply please visit: Student Opportunities | Ogier Careers

Application window opens at the beginning of October 2024

Closing date is the end of January 2025.

The standard of applicants each year is very high and we ensure that every applicant is given equal opportunity. Interviews will normally be organised during March/April and conducted by one of our senior lawyers or partners and a representative from the HR department.

  • A bursary is available on a discretionary basis to students who are studying Law at degree level (LLB ) or who are taking Graduate Diploma in Law, LLM, LPC or BPTC.  Students should have local status and be interested in pursuing a career in general practice / property.
